Our Foundation is proud to provide funds for Autism Center of Tulsa through our Lobster Fest 2016. We know that families affected by autism need guidance to access resources and information. ACT partners with a variety of agencies to provide that needed support. By accessing this support, your family can easily connect with a variety of local, statewide and national resources.
We also know that individuals with autism work hard to learn to navigate a world that is not always accommodating to their needs. Therefore, families can become isolated as they often feel it is easier to just stay home. We feel that getting out into the community and enjoying life is important for families affected by autism. After all, individuals with autism spend years in therapy and school in order to be as independent as possible.
We can help by educating our community to recognize and better understand autism as well as by providing opportunities and supports for families in the community. We empower families to go out and live life because there is no time like the present to put those skills they have learned to use.
Our Foundation, through previous Lobster Fest events, has provided funding for fifteen service dogs either in training or actually in service at this time. The need for service dogs of all levels is great right here in Tulsa. The waiting time can be up to 4 years for some high level service dogs. Glad Wags can make a difference by training and providing service dogs without the long waiting time. Their current waiting time for a High Level dog is just under 2 years…these are dogs that assist folks in wheelchairs or have very limited mobility.
Their dogs to train as service dogs come from local animal shelters and rescue groups…they are very proud of the fact that dogs that have been thrown away by someone now become someone else’s way to independence!!
As they move forward with this endeavor they are looking for financial support to provide the dogs at no cost to their clients, so they can start living a more independent lifestyle.
Create a life-changing journey for someone in need!
What would it take to change the world? Rotary’s 1.2 million members in more than 34,000 clubs worldwide believe
it starts with a commitment to Service Above Self. To aid in this commitment the Rotary Club of Tulsa Sunrise has added its local Foundation as a beneficiary of our 2016 Lobster Fest. In this way we channel monies to Rotary International Foundation to aid in worldwide projects as well as funding some of our local needs.
